Uncertain!
The word of the day is 'uncertain.' It's everywhere:
What will be the outcome of the war in Ukraine? Uncertain.
How bad will inflation be? Uncertain.
Should we get another booster shot? Uncertain.
What's going to happen in the midterm elections? Uncertain.
Can global warming be slowed down? Uncertain.
Is democracy going to survive for much longer? Uncertain.
And so on . . .
In the fullness of time, some uncertainties will be resolved. For those, we'll just have to wait and see what happens. For others, being patient won't help. For example, racism seems to be a permanent feature of our human DNA. So trying to get ride of it or the uncertainty that accompanies it, may be a waste of time. If we're left with acceptance or surrender as our only option, where does that leave us?
It leaves us with a different kind of uncertainty. Uncertain about what to do if we can't have an impact on what is unacceptable. I don't have an answer, but for now I'm happy to hang out in the question. Your thoughts?
