Debate!

Last night's fiasco was an accurate representation of where the United States of America is at this moment in time.

We are divided, uncivil, mean-spirited, spiteful, selfish, clueless, intolerant, and, to sum it up, un-American.  Un-American if what America stands for is what we have told ourselves we stand for.

It may be our time is up.  We've had a good run.  A look at history tells us that powerful empires/kingdoms/countries have a finite life.  After the rise comes the fall.  Decline is inevitable.

So if that's where we are, if we're on the way out, we shouldn't be surprised.  Its possible to slow or even reverse the decline, at least temporarily, but in the end we'll go the way of all the others.

In the meantime - enjoy the show!

Louisville!

It is sure to be nasty in Louisville tonight.

The lack of charges against the police who killed Breonna Taylor is the spark that will set it off.  But the issue isn't what happened today.  The fire that has been burning for centuries is the culprit.

Racism.  Inequality.  Lack of accountability.  Violence against Blacks - and other non-whites.  No empathy.  And much more . . .

Looting and burning play into the hands of those who perpetuate what is wrong.  But looting and burning it will be - and the cycle repeats itself.

Very sad!

Not Surprised!

If you are surprised that the Republicans are contradicting themselves and their previous commitment not to name a new Supreme Court justice in a presidential election year you are living in a different universe than this one.

Of course this is what they will do.  Their word is not a bond; it is worthless.  Hypocrisy rules.

One can only hope that if they are up for reelection in November they will pay the price.  How delicious it would be if the people who vote take revenge on these hypocrites.  If, as is likely, the Republicans will get their way and confirm another conservative, we'll still be saddled with a lopsided court for decades.  But at least some better laws could be passed with the Dems in control of both the House and the Senate.

And the White House?  When I heard that RBG was dead, I thought the only worse news than this would be if Biden didn't win.  Oh, my.  Its going to be a long six weeks.
