98th

My mother turns 98 today.

We're having her for dinner and I asked if it was OK to have a small group. Or did she want more people?

"A small group is fine. But I want a lot of people two years from now."

She has great spirit. Is active. Pretty healthy as far as we can tell. Lousy short-term memory but extraordinary recall for what happened, say, 90 years ago.

She's a lovely lady who sees the best in people. I wouldn't bet against her making it to that centennial she has in mind.

Dear Old Mum. Happy Birthday, Dorothy. We love you.

Civic Duty

For the past six weeks I've been spending most days down at the courthouse, San Francisco's Hall of Justice, on jury duty.

The trial is scheduled to be finished in another two weeks. What's it about? Can't tell you. Can't talk about it until after we've finished deliberating. So stay tuned . . . in the fullness of time all will be revealed.
