From Inside My Bubble!
It’s been quiet around here. All day almost every day I stay inside my secure bubble, venturing out only for a walk or if absolutely necessary. Even though I don’t have any serious pre-existing medical conditions, at age 87 I am vulnerable and choose to be extra careful.
We are more fortunate than many. Our home is comfortable, a pleasant place to be. Grocery store and restaurant deliveries keep us supplied with necessities and good food. Newspapers, TV, the Internet and a stash of books on my Kindle provide entertainment, news and diversions.
It is only when I pay attention to the world outside my bubble that my mood shifts to the dark side. Without a doubt, it is a dystopian mess out there. And dystopian doesn’t even capture it. Disease, unrest, inequality, economic disaster, our broken, flailing country helpless to stop the demise of democracy, etc., etc. The view is ugly.
Best to stay in the present. I can worry about a future I can’t control. Or I can be grateful for the blessings that I have right here in the present. And I am. I am thankful for my bubble. It’s a good place to be!
