Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose!

The more things change the more they stay the same.  How true it is.  It’s been a while since I took a look around.  So what’s new?

They’re blowing each other up by the thousands in Iraq.  We did a really great job of bringing peace to that country.

They’re killing each other by the tens of thousands in Syria.  Wasn’t Assad supposed to be gone by now?

Congress has gone on a summer break – still deadlocked about everything that matters.  A recent poll says that 17% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing.  Those 17% must be either catatonic or living on another planet. 

San Francisco’s Giants are back in the “torture the fans” business.  And doing a very good job of it.  The motto for 2013:  Wait Till Last Year.

After years of trying and millions of dollars wasted, the SEC finally got a Wall Street conviction – a mid-level guy who was taking orders from all the guys who haven’t been nailed.  It’s enough to make one cynical.

The Russians are doing a good job of – well – being Russians.  Give Snowden a place to live.  Institutionalize homophobia.  Piss on Obama’s missile proposals.  Send arms to Assad.  Jail those who criticize Putin.  And so on . . .

Raping and killing and starving in Nigeria, Sudan, Congo, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt – and so on . . .

Weiner, Spitzer, San Diego Mayor Filner – role models for aspiring politicians.

Mugabe will be reelected in Zimbabwe and the opposition will cry ‘foul.’  The new Iranian President will not make nice with Israel.  Berlusconi, while guilty, will not go to jail.

And that’s the way it looks from here!
